Yellow Level weather alert in effect for Trinidad and Tobago

An Adverse Weather Alert – Yellow Level, has been activated for both Trinidad and Tobago and its surrounding marine areas at 6pm this afternoon and extend to 6pm on Sunday, August 19.

According to an advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS):
“Flash flooding, street flooding and localized ponding in low-lying areas are very possible. During these thunderstorms, winds can gust in excess of 55km/h. Frequent lightning discharge is also expected. Hilly areas that are already moist from previous rainfall activity can experience landslips as a result of additional showers. Seas can also become agitated which can hamper marine activities.”

In addition to monitoring weather conditions, the Met Service is urging the public to be alert to cloud to ground lightning activity and do not venture into flood waters.
