Woman robbed in Tunapuna after thief knocks her unconscious with chemical spray

A 53-year-old woman was knocked unconscious and then robbed moments after entering a vehicle she thought was a taxi in the Tunapuna area on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the woman got into a car on Bharath Street, Tunapuna, around 1 p.m.

Three other men were in the car at the time and on reaching St Augustine Circular Road, she saw one of the backseat passengers pull out a rag and spray an unknown liquid into it.

The man then pulled the woman’s hair and pressed the damp rag onto her face.

The woman reported feeling dizzy before losing consciousness.

She recovered hours later around 5 pm at the corner of the Pasea Main Road and the Priority Bus Route and noticed her cellphone and the $3,500 cash she was carrying were missing.

Tunapuna police are searching for the suspects.
