27 repatriated immigrants detained, yet again

Twenty-seven illegal Venezuelan immigrants who were detained on Wednesday 17th November, 2020 and repatriated to Venezuela on Sunday 22nd November, returned to Trinidad today.

According to a release issued by the TTPS, between 1.30 pm and 2.15 pm, police received information that a number of Venezuelans were seen coming off a boat at Los Iros Beach. Officers of the South Western Division Task Force and the Santa Flora Police Station responded and met 11 adults and 16 children between the ages of 4 months to 17 years at the scene.

The officers also met a number of media personnel already at the location.

The 27 illegal immigrants were detained and were taken to the Siparia Health Facility to be medically examined.

Investigations revealed that the 27 detainees were part of a group of 29 Venezuelans who were repatriated to Venezuela on Sunday 22nd November, 2020.

The Venezuelan immigrants informed police that there was a court order for them to return to Trinidad.

Police are currently conducting interviews.
