WASA’s Transformation Plan On Course

No decision has been taken to form a new water management company in Trinidad and Tobago.

Confirmation of this comes from Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales.

He told the Senate on Tuesday with respect to the proposed restructuring of the Water and Sewage Authority several reports have indicated the utility’s top management is over staffed and needs to be reduced.

There is a transformation plan for WASA and the top management structure for the 34 leadership positions has been approved and the human resource subcommittee of cabinet is still determining the compensation packages for these positions.

Persons have been identified for the fulfilling of nine leadership positions.

Questioned on whether 3,000 wasa workers are expected to be separated or retrenched in the restructuring plans for WASA, Minister Gonzales revisited what happened on this same issue in  2013 when the people’s partnership government was in office.
