Government To Take Legal Action Against Owner Of Vessels Involved In Tobago Oil Spill

The government of Trinidad and Tobago plans to take legal action against the purported owner or owners of the tug “Solo Creed” “and the barge “Gulf Stream” which were involved in the oil spill which took place in February this year in Tobago.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Stuart Young, provided the update to the Senate on Tuesday during the question and answer period.

Minister Young was asked to provide a comprehensive update on the search for the owner(s) of the vessel; and the owner(s) and origin of the vessel that was reported to be towing the barge.

In response, it was revealed by Minister Young when ownership of the vessels involved is established the government will move ahead with legal action.

An update was also provided on the decanting of the Gulf Stream to get the remaining fuel from the capsized vessel a process which should be completed by the end of July this year.
