Venezuelan woman and Cumuto man held with large quantity of weed in Piarco

A Cumuto man and a female Venezuelan national were arrested and quantities of marijuana seized by officers of the Piarco Police Station during an anti-crime exercise conducted yesterday afternoon.

The exercise, spearheaded by ACP Andy Belfon and Snr. Supt. Ramdeen, was conducted between 1 pm and 4 pm, on Friday 6th August, 2021 and included officers of the Road Policing Task Force.
During the exercise, officers were conducting a road exercise at the Corner of Caroni North Bank Road and Mausica Road, when they stopped a silver Toyota Altis with two occupants.

A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding several packages containing 5.3 kilogrammes of marijuana and a zip lock bag containing 56 grammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $53,000.

The suspects, a 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old female Venezuelan national, both of Cumuto, were arrested in connection with the finds.
Investigations are ongoing.

During the same exercise, officers also issued five tickets to persons for failing to wear a face mask in a motor vehicle.
