University student raped, father beaten during Penal home invasion

A 22-year-old university student was raped and her father beaten during a home invasion in Penal on Tuesday morning.

Around 3 am, a 48-year-old businessman and his children, ages 22, 18 and nine, were asleep in their home, when two bandits, one armed with a cutlass and the other with a gun, forced their way into the house.

Reports are that they made their entry through an open window in the living room and squeezed through the burglar-proofing.

A relative said the young woman opened her eyes to see a man standing over her before he attacked her sexually.

The bandits tied up their victims as they ransacked the house and demanded money.
They beat the businessman on his head and back before he handed over approximately $2,000.

The bandits also stole a television, sneakers and tablets before driving off in the family’s two vehicles.

The family untied themselves and contacted the police.

One of the stolen cars was spotted by officers and during a chase, the bandits crashed into a wall in Batchyia Village.

Officers arrested two men from Las Lomas and Arima.

Police were still searching for the third suspect and the other stolen vehicle.
