Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels announces he’s running for President of the United States

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC fame intends to run for president in 2024.

The rap icon revealed the news on Saturday (Aug. 26) during an appearance at the Red Bull Arena in New York City for the match-up against Inter Miami and New York Red Bulls, Outkick.com reports.

“I am running for president starting today, because in a beautiful place like this… what better place to announce it?” the 59-year-old music icon told a reporter on the field’s sideline. “But it’s all about togetherness and people coming together.”

The Hollis, Queens native made the big announcement during soccer star Lionel Messi’s Major League Soccer debut at the arena.

“The whole beauty of everything that’s going on, Messi being here, soccer, MLS, everything that’s going on, this is what the world is all about,” McDaniels said. “We see so much division, but if we go to a soccer game or concert or museum, where the sports and art is, it’s a true representation of how great this world is. Not can be, is.”

McDaniels is the latest Hip-Hop artist to announce their presidential candidacy, as Afroman, 48, (real name Joseph Edgar Foreman) filed the required documents with the Federal Elections Commission to run in the 2024 election this past April.

According to TMZ, Afroman’s presidential committee is named “Joseph Afroman Foreman for President,” and he’s running as an Independent.

Afroman initially shared his campaign plans during a concert in Missouri last December, according to multiple reports.

“Can I make the biggest announcement I ever made in my life? I’m running for president in 20-20-fro! We gonna get legal weed everywhere,” the “Because I Got High” rapper told the crowd, per Metro.

Afroman later took to Instagram to detail his presidential campaign’s “eight main priorities,” which include criminal justice reform and legalizing marijuana.
