UNC to begin screening candidates soon

The United National Congress (UNC) will begin its screening of candidates for the next General Election in May.

Elections are constitutionally due in 2025.

Speaking at a Cottage Meeting in Pointe-a-Pierre last evening, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, “Tonight, it feels like the election has been called. The Prime Minister has said general elections will be soon. The PNM has been on election footing and the UNC will open nominations and screening in April and May. The general elections campaign is now in full swing. Whenever you call it, Prime Minister, we’re ready.”

She said the UNC must not be caught napping.

The UNC opened nominations for each of the general election seats last December.

Persad-Bissessar indicated that the closing date for the submission of nominations for the 2025 General Election is April 11.

The party will then host its anniversary function on April 30.

She told supporters: “Your UNC will win the soon-to-be-called general elections. This is your time. Stay united, stay focused, don’t be distracted by those who didn’t work or sacrifice as you did. Don’t be fooled by those who push the big lie that the UNC cannot topple the PNM.”
