Ukraine President calls for air support to fight Russian troops

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quoted Britain’s wartime leader Winston Churchill as he appealed to MPs in the UK for more help in his country’s fight against Russia.

“We will not surrender, we will not lose, we will go to the end.”

Ukraine’s President spoke to the House of Commons via video – the first time a foreign leader has addressed MPs in the chamber – thanking the UK for its support since Russia’s invasion.

He called for Russia to be named a “terrorist state” and for Ukraine’s allies to “make sure our skies are safe”.

Zelensky addressed the Ukrainian people by video from an undisclosed location Tuesday morning in what has become his customary morning address.

Ukrainian cities have been under siege from Russian forces for over a week now, subject to heavy shelling and bombing.

Zelensky urged Western nations to provide air support to supplement Ukraine’s air force.
