TTPS to get four new specialised units

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) will soon add four new specialist units to its institution.

During a media briefing held yesterday, Acting Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds said the new units will include: a white collar crime unit; a gender-based violence unit; a school services unit and a specialised investigation unit. These units will join the already established and active Special Operations Response Team (SOTT), which has been assisting officers during special exercises. The gender-based violence will focus on women and children while the school services unit will focus on issues concerning students that may occur away from the school compound. Not much details is known about the other two units.

Hinds added that the units were developed after discussion between the Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, and Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith. He added that the units have been approved by Cabinet and it is now left to the police service to develop and launch the units.
