Trinis in Turkey “ok” after earthquake

A group of Trinidadians in Turkey to provide assistance to earthquake victims almost became victims themselves when another strong earthquake hit the country again yesterday.

The group, Concerned Muslims of T&T, left Trinidad several days ago to deliver relief items to earthquake victims in Turkey.

Public relations officer of the group, Imtiaz Mohammed, however said he and another Trinidadian, Manwar Ali, are “ok” after yesterday’s earthquake.

Yesterday’s 6.4 magnitude earthquake killed at least three people and sparked panic in a region devastated two weeks ago by powerful tremors that killed more than 46,000 people.

Mohammed and Ali will be returning to Trinidad on February 24.

Members of the group have been able to distribute food cards from a Turkish supermarket chain to affected persons along with food hampers and hygiene kits.
