Three rescued as search continues for Venezuelan survivors of sunken vessel in first Boca

The search and rescue operation is underway for Venezuelan nationals after a vessel sank yesterday morning by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) began early yesterday morning after a vessel reportedly sank yesterday morning, off the First Boca of Trinidad.

Initial reports, the vessel left Las Cuevas Bay sometime after midnight Thursday, en route to Venezuela when the vessel could not be accounted for. At least three people were rescued from the waters off the coast by officials from the Trinidad and Tobago inter-island ferry, the Buccoo Reef, as well as local fishermen.

The TTCG said that up to 5 p.m. yesterday, the Coast Guard’s Maritime Operations Command Centre was actively engaged in search-and-rescue operations in the area to confirm the information received and to locate survivors.

The TTCG said: “Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of all involved and the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard remains committed to providing border security and search and rescue services in order to maintain the safety and security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations,”
