Thieves attempt to break into Church of Assumption

The Church of Assumption in Maraval was broken into during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Reports are that they also tried to break into the nearby parish office but were unsuccessful.

Parish priest Fr Ashton Pierre, according to a release sent out by The Catholic News, was awakened by the sound of breaking glass around 4 am and immediately contacted the St Clair Police.

Upon further inspection, he found that the front windows of the parish office were shattered and the intruders also attempted to pry open its burglar-proofing.

Fr Pierre was physically unharmed and said that no sacramental items were taken or damaged by the intruders.

A police investigation into the matter is ongoing and police sources said that no one has been arrested.

Police officials said this served as a reminder for communities and religious institutions to remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of their premises.
