Speculation rife on President’s replacement

With the Electoral College set to meet on January 20th, 2023 to appoint a new President, speculation has been rife on whether Paula Mae Weekes will seek another term in office.
However, the ever so private president has revealed nothing, as yet.

Speculation is also being made about who could possibly replace her and according to a Trinidad Guardian report, Senate President Christine Kangaloo could possibly be nominated for the post.

Nominations are due to be submitted by January 13th.

Kangaloo is no stranger to the duties, as she has acted on behalf of Weekes on several occasions.

If Kangaloo is nominated by Government for the post, a new Senate President will have to be appointed.

Weekes is T&T’s first female president and sixth President overall.
