Shooting on Independence Square – 3 dead, 2 injured

An early morning shooting in the heart of Port of Spain has left three suspects dead.

The incident took place around 3:20am after police intercepted a vehicle they were chasing at Independence Square and Chacon Street corner.

According to reports, officers of the Western Division were in pursuit of armed men who were in a white Toyota Aqua.
The suspects reportedly hailed from the areas of Cocorite and Carenage.

Upon reaching Independence Square and Chacon Street, the vehicle was intercepted by several units and there was an exchange of gunfire, with the police fatally shooting three suspects.
Two others sustained injuries while another is said to be in critical condition.
Investigations are continuing.
