Seven arrested, firearms and drugs seized in anti-crime exercise

Officers Arrest 7, Seize a Firearm and Drugs and Recover 5 Stolen Vehicles in Exercises Across Several Divisions

Seven persons were arrested, five stolen vehicles were recovered, and a quantity of drugs were seized in various exercises across six Divisions.

A roving roadblock and anti-crime exercise in the Central Division resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old man for possession of a shotgun and three 12-gauge cartridges. A 27-year-old man was also arrested during the exercise for Breach of Protection Order and 10 tickets were issued for various traffic offences. The exercise, which was a part of Operation Real Steel took place in the Freeport district between 2 am and 6 am yesterday.

An 18-year-old Couva man was also arrested for Possession of Ammunition in another exercise in the Couva District that was conducted between 9 am and 11 am yesterday.

Officers of the North Eastern Division conducted an exercise between 11 am and 8 pm yesterday in the Santa Cruz and San Juan Districts. Two persons were arrested for Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking being within 500 metres of a school. Known drug blocks were also targeted during the exercise leading officers to allegedly find 474.6 grammes of marijuana during a search of a bushy area at Mt. Hope Road and Shende Street, Sunshine Avenue, San Juan. No one was arrested in connection with the find. Officers also recovered a stolen vehicle during a separate exercise in the Malick area.

There were two arrests in North-Central Division related to shooting enquiries. Two stolen vehicles were recovered in the Northern Division, one stolen vehicle was recovered in the Western Division and another in Tobago.
