Schools closed as T&T braces for heavy rains, floods

All schools across Trinidad and Tobago will be closed today, as inclement weather is forecast to persist across the country and major river levels continue to increase across Trinidad.

A statement was issued last night by the Education Ministry.

This deviated from a decision three weeks ago during the passage of another weather system, when the school closure announcement came from a Facebook post from the Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, less than an hour before schools were set to begin.

The Education Ministry said, “Unless a further advisory from the Ministry of Education is issued, schools will re-open Monday, October 31st, 2022, except where clean-up operations in schools may be necessary. In such cases, parents will be advised directly through the school’s principal.”

The Tobago House of Assembly’s Division of Education Research and Technology also issued a release confirming the closure of schools.

Assemblyman Zorisha Hackett encourageed parents across the island to ensure their children utilise the day for midterm revision.
