SC Elder “Why was my client detained for four days?

Pamela Elder SC

SC Pamela Elder is asking why her client Marlene McDonald was denied two of her basic constitutional rights including a right  to reasonable bail and the right to be brought before a judicial officer.

She said her client fell ill after remaining in police custody for four days which was not absolutely necessary, since everything was in place for bail to be secured on behalf of  her client on Sunday night.

Mrs Elder SC while at St Clair medical hospital is also quoted as saying  “Yes, my client is warded here. What has happened is wholly unfortunate and unnecessary because she was charged last night with all those offences and there was no reason whatsoever in law that she should have continued to be detained”.

She also questioned “So if the police have reasonable grounds to suspect, then why wait so long to charge?”
