Robbery suspected as 85-year-old woman found dead in Arima

An 85-year-old TT-born US resident was murdered at her home in Arima on Monday.

Police say Hyacinth Gardner, a retired school teacher, was visiting home to complete repairs to her home. She was found just before 9 a.m. after police received a troubled call.

Officers of the Arima Police Station said when they went to Gardner’s home on Lime Boulevard in Santa Rosa, they found her body lying on the ground and parts of the home appeared to be ransacked.

The woman’s body bore marks of violence.

A post-mortem has been ordered to confirm the cause of death.

However, from initial investigations, police suspect that Gardner was killed during a robbery.

Police said a vehicle that matched the description of one that she owns was found in Wallerfield earlier Monday morning.
