Progress Made In Tobago Oil Spill Clean Up

The country is told most of the oil remnants from the spill on Tobago’s south western coast in February this year have been removed from the shoreline.

Minister of Energy, Stuart Young, told the parliament Friday when the incident took place on February 7th , the ministry allocated a team from Heritage Petroleum to help in clean up and recovery efforts.

He said with continuous work, a significant improvement was made as a result; Heritage has reduced its personnel and on-site equipment.

Questioned on the owners of the vessels involved, the House of Representatives was told “That exercise regarding the confirmation of the owners continues to be pursued by the Ministry of Works and Transport in particular the maritime division, utilising international resources along with the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs who have been writing to various countries to ascertain and to obtain documentation to support the finding of the ownership of these vessels,” .
