Risk Assessment Was Necessary To Determine Conditions At Paria Pipeline, Says Incident Command Team

A risk assessment had to be done to determine the exact condition of the Paria Fuel Trading Limited pipeline at Point-a-Pierre in which four divers lost their lives on February 25th this year.

This was revealed by Michael Wei of the Incident Command Team of Paria during Thursday’s proceedings of the Commission of Enquiry into the tragic incidents which occurred on February 25th.

Mr Wei said when this assessment was completed only then it could be decided when it was safe for divers to go in to conducted any rescue mission.

Mr Wei outlined the various factors which were needed to be satisfied before a risk assessment could be carried out.

Chairman of the Commission, Jerome Lynch, questioned Mr Wei as to whether an assessment of risk, that it was too risky to enter the pipeline, was ever made.
