A generous sum of US$500,000 has been donated by the Republic Bank Limited to the Trinidad and Tobago government to help this country in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
A release from the financial institution stated: “In response to the anticipated economic and social fallout of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL), approved the contribution of US $2 million to be shared collectively across all the regions in which we maintain our operations.”
“Of that sum, US $750,000 was allocated to Republic Bank’s Trinidad and Tobago operations to help aid in the fight against COVID-19, with US$500,000 and a donation of 25,000 masks going to the Ministry of Health,” it stated.
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh met with Republic’s Executive Director Derwin Howell at the Ministry’s Head Office.
Howell emphasised the Bank’s commitment to responsible banking and making a positive impact not only on the economy but our society as a whole.
“To date, the Bank’s partnership with the Ministry of Health has been able to provide much needed Personal Protective Equipment for the nation’s frontline workers; increase national testing capacity through the acquisition of Quality Control and Calibration equipment as well as Extraction and Amplification equipment; and drive innovation in the manufacturing of N95 Respirators in collaboration with the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, MIC Institute of Technology, and the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI),” it stated.
