Relative who stabbed teen to death in Freeport surrenders to police

A father of five is now in police custody after he surrendered in connection with the stabbing death of 19-year-old Alex Coombs.

The 56-year-old man handed himself over to the Freeport police station early this morning (Tuesday 7th May, 2024).

He was later expected to be handed over to officers at the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three.

The suspect and the teen got into an argument which turned into a fight at the family’s home at about 12.20 am on May 6th. During the melee, Coombs was stabbed.

The suspect, who is from Joseph Drive, off Mc Leod Trace in Freeport, had been on the run from the police since the incident.

Coombs, who would have turned 20 in June, was a psychiatric outpatient.
