Public invitations for Independence Day parade available from today

Five hundred (500) public invitations will be available for the upcoming Independence Day military parade on August 31, 2023.

In an update, the Ministry of National Security said these public invitations will be available for collection from today, August 24th, 2023, from 8:30 am to August 25th, 2023 at 3pm, on a first come first serve basis.

The Ministry said invited guests must display their invitation cards and parking stickers for viewing by officers along their designated routes and when entering their respective parking locations.

Guests are asked to be seated by 7:15 am.

The Ministry said pedestrian access to the facility would be via the gate located at the Eastern end of the Grand Stand, and public seating would be opened from 6am and closed at 6pm.

Additionally, the public is advised of the traffic route for the 61st Anniversary Independence Day Military Parade on August 31, 2023.

The Ministry of National Security said the traffic route would be as follows:

After the display at the Savannah, the Parade will proceed South onto Frederick Street, West onto Park Street then onto Tragarete Road via Green Corner, to the Roxy Roundabout, before proceeding onto the Western Main Road, then North onto Long Circular Road, prior to entering the football field located at the Western end outside of the Police Barracks, where the Parade will be dismissed.

The Ministry said the traffic restrictions would be as follows:

Traffic Restriction for Queen’s Park East onto Queen’s Park West:

Unauthorised vehicles will not be permitted to proceed West around the Queen’s Park Savannah in the vicinity of the Memorial Park to Victoria Avenue in the vicinity of Friday’s Restaurant.

Traffic route for Queen’s Park Savannah Commuters:

Vehicles not authorised for the purpose of the Independence Day Parade may not proceed along the Queen’s Park Savannah using the following routes:

1. South along Queen’s Park East unto Charlotte Street, then West unto Oxford Street,

2. West along Oxford Street and then North unto Edward Street followed by West on Gordon Street

3. South on Dundonald Street up to Fitzgerald Lane

4. West along Fitzgerald Lane up to Victoria Avenue

5. Right onto Victoria Avenue followed by a left on Tranquility Street and

6. Right at Stanmore Avenue or Cipriani Boulevard to access the Queen’s Park Savannah West.

The general public can view the parade at the Queen’s Park Savannah and/or along the designated route.

Parking

The Ministry said parking for invited guests would be accommodated at alternate parking locations in Port of Spain as follows:

a. Behind the Grand Stand, Eastern end Queen’s Park Savannah

b. National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA)

c. Atlantic LNG car park, Pembroke Street

d. TSTT car park, corner New and St Vincent Streets, POS

e. National Archives car park, corner New and St Vincent Streets

f. JD Sellier, Abercromby Street

g. Tranquillity Secondary School, Victoria Avenue and

h. Casual Corner Entrance, Queen’s Park Savannah West.

Recommended routes to the car parks are as follows:

1. Queen’s Park Savannah West (Casual Corner)

Proceed west on Wrightson Road, turn north on Colville Street, east on Tragarete Road, north on Cipriani Boulevard or Stanmore Avenue and over onto Queen’s Park Savannah West. Continue west along the Savannah, keeping on the extreme right lane and enter at Casual Cprner Entrance which is at the bend after the US Embassy, and

2. Queen’s Park Savannah East (St Ann’s Roundabout)

Proceed west on Wrightson Road, turn north on Colville Street, east onto Tragarete Road, north on Cipriani Boulevard or Stanmore Avenue and over onto Queen’s Park West. Continue west along the Savannah, keeping on the extreme left lane until in the vicinity of Queen’s Royal College and/or the Zoo, at which time you would occupy the lane to the extreme right to access the entrance to the Queen’s Park Savannah, which is opposite St Ann’s Roundabout.

The Ministry said guests are advised to access the Savannah via the designated routes to alleviate traffic.

Additionally, the Ministry said no vending would be allowed at the Savannah or near it, from 12am Monday August 28 to 5pm August 31, 2023.

The Ministry said this is to facilitate preparations for hosting the parade and apologised for the inconvenience.
