Thief shot while attempting to rob FUL holder

A man said to be a known ‘snatch and run’ bandit was shot and wounded in Port of Spain on Wednesday night, as he attempted to rob a 47-year-old man who is licensed firearm owner.

Around 7:10pm, the intended victim and his friend were standing near a vendor outside Express House, Independence Square South, when they were approached by six men who tried to rob them.

One of the men had a gun while the other had a knife.

The intended victim pulled out his licensed Glock 22 and fired three shots at the bandits, hitting one in his right leg.

The wounded bandit tried to run away but collapsed at the corner of George Street and Independence Square.

The injured bandit is said to be 20-year-old Mikiel Figaro of Duncan St. Port of Spain.

Officers from the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) heard the gunshots and went to the scene, where they found the wounded bandit. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is warded under police guard.
Central Police are continuing enquiries.
