Police team up with 9-year-old to fight hunger in Central Division

A special police team joined forced with nine-year-old Aaleyah Patrick of Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, to initiate an operation in which families throughout the Central Division were given hot meals and various food items.

The initiative was organised by the Standard Two pupil of the Pillars of Excellence Academy who reached out to the Central Division Community Relations Unit to team up and help her fellow residents who may be negatively affected by COVID-19.

Aaleyah, who is a member of the Christ AME Church, Freeport, expressed that she wanted to work with the police to give hope and stability to families in her community, as part of her birthday celebration this year.

Community Relations Officers, Sergeant Jacey Small, PC Arnold Richards, and WPC Elisa Rampersad, immediately agreed and sprang into action with Aeleyah. Aeleyah and her family prepared the lunches and food hampers, and with the help of the Police Officers, they were distributed to specific families who currently have no source of income or who have been drastically affected by the pandemic.
