A Fracas!
That’s how the incident at the Port of Spain Prison yesterday is being described by the Acting Prisons Commissioner Deopersad Ramoutar.
He spoke with the Power Breakfast Show this morning and explained that contrary to reports there was no riot at the Prison.
He also rubbished reports that a lack of staffing led to yesterday’s incident.
He said that according to his info one inmate was behaving agitated and was returned to his cell.
He disclosed that he is concerned with the safety of all officers following the situation yesterday.
However he stated that officers are assaulted on a regular basis by prisoners during the course of their duties, because it is a high risk job.
