Portions of Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to open to public on Saturday

Portions of the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension Project connecting San Fernando and Point Fortin will be opened to the public on Saturday.

A news release from National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Nidco) and the Ministry of Works and Transport yesterday announced that portions of the roadway between Mon Desir and La Brea, as well as between Vance River and Dunlop Roundabout, would be open to vehicular traffic on October 14.

These openings are meant to improve vehicular flow between San Fernando and Point Fortin, the release added.

The additional sections will, according to Nidco, include; the Delhi Road Interchange, four lanes between Delhi Road and Eccles Trace; the Grants Road Interchange, four lanes between Vance River and Dunlop Roundabout; #8 Field Road Interchange (Guapo) and Southern Main Road between La Brea and Vance River, the latter of which has been upgraded to facilitate this arrangement.

Diversions of both north-bound and south-bound traffic will remain in place at Mon Desir Interchange, it said. The Mon Desir Interchange, La Brea Interchange to Southern Main Road (Vance River), and Mon Desir Interchange to Fyzabad would remain under construction.

From Saturday, motorists travelling south-bound from St Mary’s Village and surrounding areas towards Point Fortin can access the new sections of the highway via the Delhi Road Overpass.

According to the releas: “Motorists should then travel west along the SHHEPF (Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin) towards the La Brea Interchange and proceed north from the La Brea interchange to the new roundabout constructed at Vessigny, to access the Southern Main Road. Motorists should continue on the Southern Main Road and again access the SHHEPF at Vance River and continue on the SHHEPF to Dunlop Roundabout.”

Motorists from Point Fortin and surrounding areas heading towards San Fernando could access the highway extension from Dunlop Roundabout and at #8 Road Interchange (Guapo).

Motorists should then proceed north along the highway extension towards Vance River and continue north on Southern Main Road toward the Vessigny Roundabout.

“Motorists should then proceed south to the new La Brea Interchange and continue eastwards towards Delhi Road Interchange. A diversion at the New Delhi Road interchange is in place for safe traffic flow. Motorists can then proceed northwards along the SHHEPF towards the new St Mary’s Interchange and onto San Fernando,” it said.

Minor temporary traffic disruptions may occur to facilitate final works, the release added.
