Police Welfare Association says officers concerned after being branded “criminals”

The Police Social and Welfare Association President, ASP Gideon Dickson, says officers have reached out with concern because the police have been branded as criminals.

He made his comment following Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s statement that there is a need for vetted units within the TTPS to weed out corruption in the service.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power breakfast Show ASP Dickson admitted that there is room for improvement within the TTPS but said the number of officers facing corruption charges is on the decline.

ASP Dickson noted that officers already face polygraph testing for entrance to the service and admission to vetted groups.

He suggested furthermore that the Prime Minister’s solution to solving crime and corruption has some gaps as already vetted units within the TTPS currently do not receive the necessary resources and support.
