Police Commissioner Defends TTPS Independence

Acted properly and independently, this is how  Police Commissioner, Erla Harewood  Christopher,   describes the action of her officers relating to members of the White-Collar Crime Unit visit and search of the official residence of  Tobago House of Assembly, Chief Secretary, Farley Augustine, in Lowlands, Tobago, on Tuesday.

The searches were reportedly in connection with audio recordings of two top THA officials allegedly conspiring to use public funds for the purposes of propaganda.

However, speaking at a news briefing on Wednesday, the Commissioner dismissed claims of any directive or influence coming from the Prime Minister for the action of her officers.

She described the allegations made by the Chief Secretary at a THA Sitting on Wednesday as serious which can impact on the integrity of the TTPS.
