A group of healthcare workers staged a protest on the grounds of the San Fernando General Hospital on Saturday morning, to express their anger with with the recent proposal of a 2 percent wage increase.

Chanting “One percent, nothing! Two percent, nothing,” the workers are furious that government, via the Chief Personnel Officer, would insult them with such an unfair offer of two percent over an eight-year period.

They workers said: “We’re worth more than that!” and called on their colleagues to stand up.

In an interview with GML, Industrial Relations Officer of the Public Service Association, Ricardo Goolcharan, said this is just the start of protest action that will be sweeping through the RHAs.

He added that their protest was not about politics, but for workers to have a comfortable life.
