PM says reopening of schools will be closely monitored

With a portion of the nation’s children set to return to schools from Monday, 8th February, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has assured that the process will be monitored very closely and on a daily basis.

Speaking at a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre today, Rowley said if we can’t do it safely then what does it mean for these children who have their various examinations to sit?

He admitted that there are risks involved but said as of now, the risk is not as great.

Rowley stated that T&T is in a “fairly good place” based on COVID-19 data, but he admitted that opening the country up more is not how government will respond.

He said we escaped the worst, unlike some neighbouring territories and will continue doing what we have been doing to mitigate the spread of the virus.
