Parkland gunman spared death by jury

The jury has recommended the Parkland gunman to life in prison without parole.

The judge is announced separate verdicts for each count. So far, each one has recommended life imprisonment without a chance of parole.

Nikolas Cruz, 24, pleaded guilty last year to killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February 2018.

The shooting sparked a wave of anti-gun protests around the US as well as the March for Our Lives movement

It is the deadliest mass shooting to reach a jury trial in the US – all jurors must vote unanimously in order for him to be put to death.

Families of the victims spoke out on their idea of justice following massacre.
