Deportation of nine more Venezuelans stopped

On the heels of an order by High Court judge Frank Seepersad to deport an 11-year-old Venezuelan girl, another judge, Justice Joan Charles, has now stopped the deportation orders of nine others.

These are all members of the now famous group of 26, who re-entered Trinidad waters on November 24 after being deported a day earlier.

Justice Charles last evening issued the orders restraining the State from removing the nine from the jurisdiction for the duration of their quarantine period.

So far, 22 applications for interim relief have been granted by Charles and Justice Avason Quinlan-Williams.

Only one was denied.
