Paray tells Kamla to call UNC internal election when due in June of this year

Mayaro MP Rushton Paray is calling on Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, to call internal elections when they are due in June of 2024.

At a press conference this morning, flanked by UNC activist Victor Roberts and former local government chairman Henry Awong, Paray thanked the “brave and courageous” supporters gathered at the Couva Chamber of Commerce Hall.

Paray said that despite the fact that no General Election has been called, a bogus narrative is being pushed by their leadership, that says the UNC cannot have internal elections because there is a General Election “soon”.
He said that is not acceptable.

Paray said talk of a General Election by the leadership “is simply a ruse intended to suppress the voice of the membership.”.

He reminded the leadership of the party that the most important person in the UNC is not the Political Leader, nor is it the Members of Parliament or even Senators. The most important persons in the UNC are the ordinary members.

He said that if these internal elections are not held, “it will mean that the leadership of our party will continue to fail the thousands of members by denying them their right to have their voices heard. If these UNC internal elections are not held, it will mean the leadership of our party will continue to be unprepared, rudderless and weak. If these UNC internal elections are not held , it will mean the UNC will be destined to lose a third successive General Election.”
