Piparo mud volcano eruptions less frequent

According to the latest update from the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, eruptions at the Piparo mud volcano have become less frequent.

Corporation Chairman Ryan Rampersad says the Disaster Management Unit visited the site at 9am today.

He says they recorded eruptions at 3 to 5-minute intervals with mini-interruptions in between.

Mr Rampersad adds that there is high amount of gas escaping from the mouth of the volcano which was not seen during yesterday’s site visit.

The area has been further cordoned off to establish a “safe zone” and the Corporation will be monitoring the situation.
