Padarath wants gov’t to state whether subsidy on gas to T&TEC will be cut

Princes Town MP, Barry Padarath is calling on government to clear the air after a newspaper article reported that electricity bills could jump by as much as 204% by 2028.

The T&T Guardian said this could happen if Cabinet accepts the recommendations of the Regulated Industries Commission in its entirety and if NGC were to unsubsidise the price of natural gas.

In a media release today, Padarath said he has been asking government to state whether its intention is to cut the subsidy on gas to T&TEC, without answer.

He believes government must tell the population if this part of its plans for T&TEC ahead of the next general election, noting that citizens cannot sustain higher utility rates.
