Opposition Claims There Was No Need To Hold Today’s Extraordinary Parliament Sitting

The Opposition claims there was no need for the government to hold today’s sitting in the parliament for an extraordinary sitting in a bid to make amendments to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act.

The UNC claims there was enough time for the government to use several sittings in the House of Representatives and the Senate in the past to put forward its case on this issue instead of using the break to allegedly rush to do so now.

Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar, said on May 5th this year in the Mid-Year Review the government indicated 20 million dollars was needed to meet the cost of hosting the 45th Regular meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caricom Community as well as related celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Caricom by the government from July 3rd to the 6th.
