Ophthalmologists and trade unions get a ‘bligh’ in updated COVID19 regulations

Two days after the Trade Union federations expressed disappointment at not being deemed an essential service, the Legal Affairs Ministry has updated the COVID-19 regulations once again, this time to include ophthalmologists in the group of medical practitioners that are allowed to operate in their private practice, as well as add trade unions in the list of essential services.

The new regulations came into effect yesterday, May 12 and will last until May 23.

The amendments are to :- (a) Regulation 3(2) (i) (vii) to include medical practitioners including ophthalmologists to continue in their private practice; and (b) Regulation 3(2) (al) to allow trade unions in the list of essential services.
