Officer at center of Courts double killing still in police custody

While the public remains in waiting for answers and the family awaits justice, the officer at the center of the controversial shooting at Courts megastore remains in police custody.

Siblings Simeon Lessey and his sister Sinaaya Lessey were both killed while Simeon’s wife, Kerry-Ann Moore, a family friend and a third unnamed person were hospitalised.

The families are demanding justice for the deaths of their relatives, whom they say when to retrieve $11,000 from someone who had promised them discounted prices on appliances and had not delivered the items. They went to the carpark to meet the person and get back their money.

The officer however claimed he was attacked and fired his gun in self-defence during an attempted robbery.

The officer was held for questioning on Thursday night by officers assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau to be interviewed by investigators before they consult Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard on whether he should be charged.

He was being questioned about an incident where he used his personal firearm to shoot five people at Courts Megastore carpark.
