No Spread of Leprosy At Enterprise Government Primary School

There is no spread of Hansen ’s disease or Leprosy at the Enterprise Government Primary School.

Confirmation of this by the Education Minister who at the time responding to a question from the Opposition which wanted to know urgent measures are being taken in schools to detect and deal with future possible cases of leprosy in light of reports the Enterprise Government Primary School was shut down early on 25th January as a result of a parent and two children testing positive for Leprosy.

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The disease affects the skin, the peripheral nerves, mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract and the eyes.

It is known to be transmitted via droplets, from the nose and mouth, during close and frequent contact with untreated cases

She said in addition, Ministry of Health officials met with the staff and principal of the school to share information about the matter and to clarify questions they would have had the day prior.
