No evidence of Delta variant in TT’s COVID samples yet

Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds said there is no evidence of the Delta COVID-19 variant in samples sequenced in T&T just yet.

But, he assured that there is constant monitoring.

At Monday’s Ministry of Health media briefing, Dr Hinds said in light of the re-opening of T&T’s borders on July 17th, measures are in place to minimize the risk of the variant entering and spreading.

The Delta variant, also known as the B.1.617.2 variant, was first documented in India in October 2020 and is one of four of concern named after letters of the Greek alphabet.
