New $20.50 minimum wage comes into effect on January 1

The minimum wage increase of $3 per hour will come into effect from January 1st and the Ministry of Labour said this means that no worker should be paid below this wage in the new year

Approximately 190,000 persons in the workforce will benefit from this increase, which was announced during the budget presentation in October.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced an increase in the national minimum wage to $20.50 from $17.50 per hour.

In an update on Thursday, the Ministry of Labour said the Minimum Wage Order has been amended to reflect that from January 1, the new minimum wage of $20.50 will take effect.
