An attempt to save his home from an intruder almost cost a 42-year-old Morvant man his life on Sunday night
Around 9:35pm, the man was at his Almond Drive home with a relative, when they heard a male voice demanding that they open the door.
When the victim refused, he heard the stranger trying to break into the house.
The victim reportedly pushed his refrigerator in front of the door to block the intruder. However, the intruder shot through the door, and the victim was wounded in his back.
Police were called in and they took the bleeding man to hospital, where he remained in stable condition up to Monday morning.
Crime scene investigators visited the scene and found a single spent 9-millimetre shell.
Investigations continue.
