More Adverse Effects Expected, Says RDLG Minister, Amid Flooding Across Several Parts Of Trinidad

There has been significant flooding across North/West Trinidad and in some pockets of South Trinidad.

Persons are still reeling from the effects of flooding following heavy rains yesterday.

A heavy downpour during the afternoon left several parts of western Trinidad under floodwaters on Monday.

There were also some landslides.

Affected areas included Diego Martin, St James, Cocorite, Petit Valley, La Puerta and Carenage.

Flash flooding along the Diego Martin Highway near the new overpass and the Cocorite overpass caused extensive traffic and stalling of vehicles.

Speaking with News Power Now on Tuesday, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Faris Al Rawi said that the weather contributed significantly to the flooding and with more rains to come, more adverse effects are expected.

The Minister said unfortunately garbage has only exacerbated the issue.

He asked persons to be careful to ensure that they do not contribute to the problem.

Mr Al Rawi said in terms of relief efforts disaster management units are aggressively on the field working to address all issues.
