Moonilal accuses Hinds of interfering with constitutional remit of PSC

Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal believes that National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds has interfered with the constitutional remit of the Police Service Commission

His comment follows a scrapped TT Police Service (TTPS) media conference yesterday.

Moonilal, in an interview with GML, said he received information that it was cancelled because Hinds indicated that he would have to give permission for Gary Griffith and address the briefing.

He said the minister cannot direct the Commission or the Police Commission on whether they can host a press conference.

Moonilal now wants acting Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob to say whether he deferred the press conference because he was awaiting direction from Hinds.

The Opposition MP said “Minister Hinds has shown this tendency throughout this matter to intervene, to use political influence, and we are asking what other matters would they want to influence the police on, and that is the serious matter.”
