Man stabbed while waiting for transport at City Gate

A man had to be treated at hospital for stab wounds, after he was assaulted by a bandit while waiting for transport at the City Gate Maxi Hub on Monday night.

The 43-year-old of Maloney Gardens was reportedly waiting for a maxi at South Quay, Port-of-Spain, around 11:38 pm on January 22, when he was approached by two men.

One of the men pulled out a knife and demanded the victim’s valuables which included a black Samsung A 70 cell phone; $700 in cash; and a bag containing an assortment of cigarettes and paper amounting to $400.

When the victim attempted to run, he was struck on the back of the head with a sharp object.

He collapsed on the ground bleeding from the deep gash, while the two suspects walked towards the Sea Lots area.

Police officers who responded to the report of a robbery took the victim to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Police have made a request for CCTV footage of the hub.
