Man injured following fire at St Paul’s Street Port of Spain this morning

Fire tenders responded quickly to St Paul Street following reports of a fire this morning at Clifton Street Towers Apartment 9.

The apartment was occupied by 43-year-old Sheldon Nicholas Lee who was asleep in his apartment when he started to smell smoke at about 7:35 am.

The fire service was contacted and appliances from the Wrightson fire station responded.

According to reports, on arrival fire fighters were informed that there were occupants still trapped in the apartment.

Although they had no breathing apparatus sets on the appliance, firefighters entered the apartment to in an attempt to rescue the occupants and bring the fire under control however they later found out that the other occupants were not at home at the time .

Mr Lee was treated for a burn to his shoulder by Emergency medical technicians from GMR TT but refused to be taken to hospital for further treatment.

Reports also indicate that 5 firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigations are ongoing by the fire service police service and T&TEC
