Man, 57, Surrenders to Police Following Alleged Chopping Incident in Mayaro

A 57-year-old man who Thursday night walked into the Mayaro Police Station and confessed to allegedly chopping his co-worker is currently detained and is assisting detectives with their investigations into the matter.

The suspect, a logger of Moruga, at 8.20 pm on February 1st, 2024, walked into the police station and told police that he had earlier been involved in an argument during which he allegedly chopped another man on his left shoulder.

According to a preliminary police report, at 8 pm, a group of co-workers were at a house when an argument ensued over something that one of the men had overheard.

As a result, one of the men took a cutlass and dealt his co-worker a chop, causing an injury.

The injured man was later taken for medical treatment at a health facility and was listed in stable condition.

Officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department continued investigations into the matter and seized the cutlass which was said to be used during the incident.
